LSI to acquire ONStor

LSI has just announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire ONStor Inc; the deal is worth $25 million in cash. ONStor is mostly known for their Pantera line of SAN gateways and IP storage systems. Their other major product are the clustered NAS gateways, providing higly available frontends for large storage systems.

“The rapid growth of unstructured data is creating significant challenges for enterprises in provisioning, protecting and managing their storage in an efficient and cost-effective manner,” said Abhi Talwalkar, LSI president and chief executive officer. “With the addition of ONStor products and technology, LSI will be well positioned to offer a comprehensive set of storage solutions to help enterprise customers effectively manage both their unstructured and structured data with ease.”

The ONStor products will most likely be used to extend LSI’s existing product range of external RAID arrays, such as the 7900 storage systems shown below.
