FarStone bundles DriveClone software with custom hardware

FarStone, known for its DriveClone image-based backup software for both workstations and servers, is now offering a bundle consisting of a storage server and DriveClone Enterprise Server. Using DriveClone, an administrator can centrally manage backups for both servers and workstations. The backups are mountable as a disk image, and can be converted into a VMDK file to convert into a virtual machine or restored using a pre-boot staging environment in the event of a complete server failure.

The new TreasureStone bundle can be ordered as a traditional tower model (TSBR-1100) with 5 TB of storage, or in 2U and 3U models with 8 and 15 TB capacities respectively (TSBR-2100 and TSBR-3200). FarStone lists these as the most important features:

  • Bandwidth – Up to 850Mbytes per second
  • Storage Capacity 5TB, 8TB (2U) and 15TB (3U) capacity
  • Drive Interface Support SATA-II support
  • RAID Support RAID Levels 0, 1, 1+0 and 5
  • Protect your entire network with a user friendly administrative console
  • Reduce backup management time with customizable scheduler
  • Snapshot feature allows instant undo of any unwanted errors or viruses
  • Bare Metal Recovery from Window crashes

No pricing details have been announced yet, but the hardware used looks a lot like the D-Link DSN-1100, 2100 and 3200; so pricing for those should give you a rough indication.

Spot the differences. Doesn’t the TreasureStone unit (above) bear a lot of resemblance to the DSN-3200 from D-Link (below)?
