First 64 GB SDXC memory card announced

Toshiba is the first company to announce a 64 GB memory card in the tiny SDXC format. The card supports the SD Memory Card Standard v3 (UHS104), which was finalized early this year.

We’ll have to wait until spring 2010 for mass production of these cards, which isn’t as bad as it seems; there are not many devices supporting v3 of the SD spec, and the card uses the “exFAT” format which hasn’t seen a large adoption yet either. The first samples will ship in november enabling manufacturers to test their adoption of the UHS104 standard.

Read speeds will be up to 60 MB/s, while writes can achieve a decent 35 MB/s. There are 32 and 16 GB versions as well; both will be available around the same time as the 64 GB part.
