Xyratex the first to use Hitachi’s new 7200rpm 2TB drive

Where Winchester Systems was the first company I noticed that included 2 TB SATA drives in their storage systems, Xyratex announced today that they are offering Hitachi’s 7.200 rpm 2 TB drives. These should offer about the same performance as the 1 TB drives most vendors are offering, while providing twice the density.

“For years Xyratex has been at the front end of delivering high capacity storage systems that meet the needs generated by the ever increasing storage growth,” said Todd Gresham, senior vice president, Networked Storage Solutions, Xyratex. “We look forward to extending our long-term relationship with Hitachi and utilizing the A7K2000 in our current and future systems.”

Xyratex offers a large range of RAID systems and various JBOD arrays. The new drives are available across their entire product range. No pricing details have been announced yet.
