Sun has just posted details about their Q4 revenues in a filing to the SEC. As expected, total revenues dropped. But what might be more interesting is that their storage division is doing all right; their Open Storage systems appear to be a big hit with customers.
The numbers above are taken directly from their latest SEC filing. As you can see the Open Storage systems are starting to get closer to Sun’s older storage products, while tape drives and media revenue is going down. In fact, Open Storage systems are the only hardware category that shows a year-on-year growth in revenue.
Several analysts have already suggested that Sun’s storage systems might be an important asset for Oracle if the acquisition is approved. For more details about revenue for other Sun products during fiscal year 2009, I recommend The Register’s analysis.
