Buffalo Tech also debuts USB-powered SSD drive

Hot on the heals of OWC, Buffalo Technology is now offering a USB-powered Solid State Drive as well. The SHD-PE drive comes in three colors (red, white and black) and three sizes (32, 64 and 128 GB). The 32 and 64 GB versions will be available in Japan by the end of this month; the 128 GB model will be available at a later time.

Like OWC, Buffalo touts the robustness of SSD devices as the main feature, combined with low power usage and quiet operation. The drives weigh in at 62 grams, and use about 1.5W of power.

Pricing is only available for Japan. There is no word on availability in other markets yet, but if the drive becomes a success I’m sure we’ll be seeing it hit the streets in the US and Europe soon. At current exchange rates, the prices are:

  • 32 GB: $117 (10600 yen)
  • 64 GB: $232 (21000 yen)
  • 128 GB: $408 (37000 yen)
