OCZ is now shipping another Flash product: the Z-Drive. It is an internal drive, connected via an 8-lane PCI express bus. This makes the drive faster than SAS or SATA based solutions; the drive is available with both SLC and MLC memory, which enables customers to choose between the highest performance and a more affordable drive.
The SLC-based units are called the e84-series; these are available in capacities of 250 and 500GB, and achieve up to 16.000 IOPS. Read speeds get up to 800MB per second, with write speeds following closely at 750MB/s. The MLC-based model (p84) also has a 1TB version, but “only” gets 10.000 IOPS. All models use a 4-way RAID-0 configuration to achieve these speeds. The warranty for all models is three years, and the MTBF is listed as 900.000 hours. Pricing has not been announced yet, but the first units are shipping now; so we’ll see these in the first (web-)stores soon.
The following table summarizes the performance figures OCZ lists for these drives; the IOPS numbers are based on 4k writes, and the throughput are maximum speeds. For the MLC-based unit, the sustained write speed listed is 600 MB/s.
