Buffalo also jumping on the USB 3.0 bandwagon

Buffalo technology is just days behind Freecom in announcing its first USB 3.0 external hard drive. Their first entry in this new market is the DriveStation HD-HXU3; a 3.5 inch drive available in 1, 1.5 and 2TB models.

No pricing has been announced, but it’s expected to be in line with the Freecom models; those start at €119 for a 1TB unit, sold without USB 3.0 host controller. The same goes for performance; I’ve heard a figure of 125 MB/s quoted for this drive. Buffalo also announced a USB 3.0 controller, the IFC-PCIE2U3, which will be available separately.

Both the USB controller and the drives will be available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in Q4 of this year. There’s no word on a possible US release yet.
