SSD news from Super Talent: new drives up to 512GB

Super Talent just presented their new UltraDrive DX Solid State Drives. The drives are based on Toshiba MLC flash memory, and also use Toshiba controllers. The drives are available in capacities starting at 64GB, with the largest one providing 512GB of storage.

All models are listed as having a maximum read speed of 230 MB/s, and a write speed of 180 MB/s. The drive is packaged as a 2.5 inch unit, with a 3 GB/s SATA connector. So far, that’s not so special; the main feature being touted by Super Talent is the encryption feature:

As a first level of security the UltraDrive DX supports password protection with an encrypted password. This blocks malicious hackers from accessing the data stored on the SSD. As a second level of protection the DX incorporates new hardware data randomization technology. Data randomization happens automatically with every write to the drive to prevent unauthorized copying of blocks of data. Both encrypted password protection and data randomization are standard features that do not affect performance.

A full description of all features is available on Super Talent’s website. Here’s a summary of all available models and their respective prices:
