Solid-State Storage Appliances Make Good Business Sense

That is the title a certain storage vendor gave a press release that arrived in my mailbox today. Regular readers might have noticed that I tend to take press releases with a grain of salt; but this one was a real gem. I won’t give the name of the company that sent it here, but if you want to read the entire press release feel free.

Normally, a vendor would try to back up a statement like this with some facts and figures. The normal tactic is to sponsor some “independent” research that proves your point. As a cheap alternative, you can also have “industry experts” provide some nice quotes to support your claims. If you can’t find any expert willing to do that, your last resort is to find a happy customer that wants to tell the world about the great experience they had with your product.

But in this case, vendor “D” just goes on to point out some general advantages of Solid State Drives, and wants you to take their word for it. I’m looking forward to some real performance figures for their product; those will be better at convincing potential customers to try it.
