HotHardware has received a test sample of Fusion-IO’s ioXtreme drive. If you haven’t heard about this before: it’s an internal PCI Express card that provides 80 gigabytes of Solid State memory. It’s presented to your computer as an internal drive, and can achieve very fast read and write speeds because of the direct PCIe connection.
Up to three ioXtreme Pro cards can be combined for even better performance. The first benchmark run bu HotHardware shows even better numbers than promised by Fusion-IO; their data sheets list 280 MB/s for writes and 700 MB/s for reads. HotHardware has achieved read speeds over 800 MB/s; I’m looking forward to a full review that will no doubt be posted soon.
