OCZ technology is offering two new Solid State drives for the enterprise market: the Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX:
“OCZ is committed to enabling our enterprise clients with the latest solid state drive technology in a variety of interfaces,” said Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group. “With our new Vertex 2 EX and Pro series SSDs, we are able to deliver robust solutions that address the critical requirements of enterprise applications, including enhanced endurance, write performance, and data protection, with the option of either MLC or SLC NAND. These are truly best-in-class solutions designed for the most rigorous computing environments.”
The Pro version uses cheaper Multi-Level Cell (MLC) memory, while the EX version uses SLC chips for optimal performance and durability. Performance is quoted as up to 285MB/s for reading data, 275MB/s for writes, and 50.000 iops when doing 4KB random writes; which sounds like very nice performance.
The drives use SandForce SF-1500 SSD processors, and are available in 50, 100 and 100 GB 2.5 inch SATA versions. A SAS version will also be made available. MTBF is around 10 million hours, and the drives are backed by a 3 year warranty. To further protect against possible data failure, the drives use ECC error protection and a small capacitor that will provide the drive with enough backup power in case of a power failure, so that any pending write operations can be completed.
