OCZ adds PCIe SSD to consumer lineup

While several companies are already offering internal Solid State Drives for use in servers, OCZ has just announced a solution that targets the consumer segment. The RevoDrive uses a PCIe connection to enable higher speeds than possible with a traditional SATA interface, but OCZ manages to keep the price for the drive relatively low.

The RevoDrive achieves write speeds of up to 480 MB/s, with sustained writes maxing out at 400 MB/s. That’s faster than a 3 Gbps SAS connection can support. The data sheet also lists an incredible 75.000 IO’s per second when doing random writes. The drive is available in 120 and 240 GB sizes, with a MSRP of $389.99 and $699.99 respectively.

I’m investigating this for a group of workstations, and maybe try it on some small Exchange servers… Looks good so far, do they support PCI Express gen2? Also, I wonder if they plan to use the latest Sandforce controllers (SF-2000) here? I also want to try some caching software, possibly Dataplex, with this. Anyone else looking at this?
