100 Gbps networks getting closer

Dell just announced some new members for their EqualLogic iSCSI SAN family. The PS6000XVS and PS6010XVS arrays offer both SSD and SAS storage options combined into the same chassis; customers can combine 8 SAS and 8 SSD drives. These new arrays appear to be targeted towards smaller customers; Dell already offered SSD-only models.

IDC report shows storage software growth

IDC’s Worldwide Storage Software Tracker report for the previous quarter was just released, and it shows some mixed data. Year-on-year growth in revenue for storage software was 7.2%, but when compared to last quarter revenue decreased by 1.6%.

Gartner reports double-digit growth for storage market

Gartner just released their quarterly report on the storage market, and the figures look good. Year-on-year growth for external storage was 18.3 percent, more than making up for last year’s decline. When compared to Q1 2008, growth is 5.2 percent.
